The Proposal

Our Engagement:

It all started on Monday night when Dave asked me to go on a date night on Wednesday night. I did not think anything of it because we had not been on a real date night since before Christmas because of his knee surgery and school. So Wednesday night we dressed up for our date night, he picked me up and we first went to Ti Amo’s Italian Restaurant. [Ti Amo’s is one of our favorite romantic date night restaurants.] When we got there, he had already ordered our meals ahead of time.

Then we left there and went to our next stop. On the way, my contacts began to bother me so I took them out but asked if I would need to put my glasses on, Dave said that I would need my eyes for our next stop. We drove into a parking lot that links lots of restaurants which confused me since we had just ate and I was not sure what I would need my eyes for. Then Dave got flip flops out of the truck for him and had some for me, but I was already wearing flip flops. We went to Woodhouse Day Spa. [For our 6 month anniversary, Dave got me a gift card for a massage to Woodhouse after extensively researching spas to find a nice legit one.] When we got there, I begin to wonder what all the evening would entail. We were lead back to the waiting area past the dressing rooms (where you would normally change for your massage) which confused me because I remembered them providing sandals and a robe for you when you get a massage. So I was not sure what we were doing there. While in the waiting area, Dave tells me we are getting manicure and pedicures together. Anybody who knows me, knows I love to get pedicures and anybody who knows Dave know this is completely out of character for him to be willing to get a manicure and pedicure. So we got our manis and pedis together which was a hilarious time to watch Dave and his reaction to everything involved in a mani and pedi.

After we left there I was completely relaxed and wondered what our next stop could possibly be. We then went to AMC Theater [where we had our very first official date]. Dave has pre-bought tickets to Night of the Museum 2 which starred Ben Stiller who also the star in the movie from our first official date. So throughout the whole movie, I was thinking what was up and if anything was going on.

After the movie, Dave tells me this is all he had planned and asked if I wanted to go to his house or go home or go do something. To each question I said I don’t know because I did not want to answer wrong. So we decide to go back to his house. He misses his normal exit to 169 so I was thinking maybe the Garnett exit is just a quick. Then he misses that exit so I begin yet again to wonder. He exits off 145th and I am totally confused because the only thing I know this way is his church and a consignment store we go to. We pass both of those and he turns shortly after. He then turns again so I ask if he is just driving in circles back to his house to confuse me. He says his typical I’m guilty but won’t admit to it response “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” Soon we turn into a housing edition that has ponds at the entrance. On the side, I see a deck gazebo that looks candle lit. I ask him if it is and yet again, he says “I don’t know what you’re talking about.” We drive around to it and I see Annie’s (his little sister) car and her and a friend lighting the candles. It was a pretty windy night so they had to light them a lot.

I had a feeling that this was the moment I had been waiting for. We walk up the candle lit path to the landing that overlooks the pond. [About 4 years ago, I had sent Dave on a scavenger hunt picking up dinner and had him end up at Hunter Park where I had a deck candle lit for a picnic for us.] On the landing is a blanket and pillows, roses, cheesecake (from Cheesecake Factory-yum![where we went on our 3 year anniversary]), and sparkling juice. He says that he has some presents for me. The first one is a cd from the marriage conference that was just at his church that he did production for. The next present is a polka dotted photo album (I love polka dots!), [I have made him many scrapbooks throughout the years]. The first page has a letter on it that says bunches of mushy sweet stuff and that he loves me more that words can express so he wanted to do it in pictures. The first picture is of him at the Aquarium holding a sign with a “W”. I immediately knew what was going on. Each picture was him at a location significant to us-dates, day trips, frequent restaurants, etc. He even went as far as our day trips to OKC and to Natural Falls (3 hours from Tulsa the opposite direction from OKC!). At each location he was holding a sign with a letter that spelled out “W-i-l-l y-o-u m-a-r-r-y m-e?” By this point I am crying and I look over at him and he gets down (well, actually gets up since we were sitting on the ground) on one knee and asks me to marry him. Of course, I said yes! Then he puts my ring on, kisses me, and then gives me my last present. It was a sign/picture from Target that I have loved for years that says “Always kiss me goodnight.” Then we got to leave and Annie cleaned up everything for us.
